We are looking for an artist whose practise focuses on new work and who brings experience of working with writers; a deep curiosity about dramaturgy; and a commitment to new forms and stories that will disrupt, reconstruct, and open-up space for change. The Dramaturg will be part of the Literary and Artistic teams, working closely with the Literary Manager, Associate Directors and Literary Associates across writer development.

This is a new role, created in response to recent thinking about how we can de-centre our dramaturgical approach and create a space where we can develop freelance dramaturgs, as well as be developed and changed by their thinking.   Your work will intersect with a series of enquiries led by our writers and Living Archive – a piece of work that will reimagine the history of the Royal Court in order to redefine its future, opening up a portal to an alternate and decolonising lens.

The role will be shaped around the artist we recruit and be flexible around other  commitments. It will be structured as an attachment lasting 12 to 18 months, for 2 to 3 days per week.  We are open to offering this role either  as a fixed term employment contract or a freelance engagement, whichever is preferable.

Thank you for your interest in this role. Before completing this form, please read through the accompanying Application Pack which can be found on our website. You may wish to prepare some of your responses in advance before submitting them on the form.

We will review all applicants’ responses to the 3 questions and score these against the essential knowledge, experience and skills in the person specification to achieve a shortlist of people we will then invite to interview.

You will also be asked to upload your CV as a word document or pdf file.

Candidates who currently have a valid work permit allowing them to work in the UK for the duration of this contract are welcome to apply.  Unfortunately, we are unable to consider applications for this role which would require us to obtain a certificate of sponsorship or permit to work in the UK.

Please let us know if you would like further information, support with access requirements or an informal chat about the role. You can also email us if you would like to submit your application in a different format or if you experience any difficulties with the form. You can contact us on recruitment@royalcourttheatre.com
