NHS Lothian is undertaking a joint public consultation with Mr Ashfaq Ahmed regarding their proposed application for a new pharmacy to open at Unit 1, Rosewell Community Hub, Gorton Road, Rosewell, Midlothian, EH24 9AB.  

 Mr Ahmed, who wishes to submit the application, has defined the neighbourhood as: 
To the North: A6094
To the East: Road running parallel to the east of Ferguson Park until it intersects Dalhousie Burn
To the South: From the above intersection follow unnamed road south, then all the way west until intersection with A6094
To the West: A6094 

Mr Ahmed plans to provide the following services from the pharmacy should the application be granted:

All Core Services
Acute Medication Service (AMS)
Chronic Medication Service (CMS)
Minor Ailment Scheme (eMAS)
Public Health Services (PHS) eg EHC and Smoking Cessation
 
As well as:
Unscheduled Care (emergency supply of medicines)
Methadone Supervision
Buprenorphine and Suboxone supervision
All available PGDs (e.g. chloramphenicol eye drops to children under 2 years of age, pharmacy first (antibiotic prescribing) and prophylactic paracetamol for meningitis vaccine)
Weekly blister pack (medicines compliance aids)
Healthcare advice
Free prescriptions collection and delivery service
Gluten free foods service
Instalment dispensing of medicines
 
And potential others, including;
Blood pressure monitoring
Cholesterol and glucose testing
Stoma appliance service
Flu vaccination
Travel clinic / advice
 
Mr Ahmed has also indicated that he would provide the following services if required to do so by NHS Lothian:
Injection Equipment Provision
Pharmaceutical Advice to Care Homes
Palliative Care Network 
 
Mr Ahmed plans to provide these services at the following times:
Monday          -           9am – 5.30pm
Tuesday         -           9am – 5.30pm
Wednesday   -           9am – 5.30pm
Thursday       -           9am – 5.30pm
Friday             -           9am – 5.30pm
Saturday        -           9am – 1pm
Sunday          -           Closed

As required by legislation, NHS Lothian and Mr Ahmed are undertaking a joint public consultation before Mr Ahmed makes his formal application. This consultation has two main purposes: to assess the current provision of pharmaceutical services in the neighbourhood and whether it is adequate and to establish the level of support from residents in the neighbourhood for the application

All views submitted will be incorporated into a Consultation Analysis Report which will be taken into account by the NHS Lothian Pharmacy Practices Committee (PPC) which decides the outcome of the application. 

The closing date for comments is 21 November 2019.
