Lincolnshire West Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) would like to seek your views about extending the opening hours of its 31 member GP practices located in Lincoln, Gainsborough, and surrounding areas. This is called "extended hours".

GP practices in this area are required to open between 8.00am and 6.30pm Monday to Friday, however some practices currently choose to open for longer on one or two weekdays and some Saturday mornings.

Guidance published by NHS England in February 2018, now requires the CCG to provide extended hours access to GP services, including at evenings and weekends, for 100% of its patient population by 1 October 2018. This must include ensuring appointments are available during peak times of demand including bank holidays and across the Easter, Christmas and New Year periods.

GP practices currently offering extended hours do so for their own registered patients at their own practice. However under the new proposal, the service would be delivered by a collaboration of GP practices in the area, therefore if a patient wishes to attend an extended hours appointment they may be expected to travel to another local GP practice or a central GP practice hub.

Extended hours appointments would be for pre-bookable non urgent appointments, for example, chronic illness, asthma checks, flu jabs, blood tests, medicines reviews, or physiotherapy. Appointments for urgent matters at evenings, weekends, and bank holidays will continue to be accessed from the GP Out of Hours Services at Lincoln County Hospital via NHS 111 or the Minor Injuries Unit at John Coupland Hospital.

Please help us to decide how the extended hours service could be delivered by completing the survey below. The closing date for the survey is 11.59pm on Thursday 31 May 2018. If you are completing a paper copy of the survey please return to your GP practice or post to: NHS Lincolnshire West Clinical Commissioning Group, Cross O’Cliff, Bracebridge Heath, Lincoln, LN4 2HN.
