East Devon Wildlife Survey 2021

Thank you for taking part in this survey about East Devon's wildlife and wild places. There are nine questions where your response will help to inform Devon Wildlife Trust's future work in East Devon.

Question Title

* 1. Seven of Devon Wildlife Trust's 58 nature reserves are in East Devon and DWT has worked on conserving the area's wildlife and wild places for many years. Before receiving this mailing, had you heard of Devon Wildlife Trust?

Question Title

* 2. DWT led the River Otter Beaver Trial, England's first wild beaver re-introduction project, right here in East Devon. What is your awareness of the River Otter beavers?

Question Title

* 3. DWT leads the Saving Devon's Treescapes project, which aims to plant and nurture 250,000 trees outside woodlands across Devon, to replace ash trees lost to ash dieback. East Devon is a particular focus area and free native broadleaf trees are available for you to plant. Would you be willing to plant a free tree?

Question Title

* 4. Bystock Pools, near Exmouth, is DWT's largest nature reserve in East Devon. Its 67 acres of heathland, woodland, meadows and ponds form part of the East Devon Pebblebed Heaths. Have you visited Bystock Pools nature reserve?

Question Title

* 5. DWT successfully campaigned for years to stop scallop dredging on the most sensitive areas of coral-rich reefs in Lyme Bay and has also supported better protection for Lyme Bay's white-beaked dolphins. What is your awareness of marine wildlife off the coast of East Devon?

Question Title

* 6. 41% of insect species in the UK are at risk of extinction. DWT's recent Action for Insects campaign has focused on reducing people's pesticide use and creating more habitat for insects in parks, road verges and gardens. Since the start of spring, what kinds of insect have you spotted in your garden?

Question Title

* 7. With an estimated 24 million gardens in the UK, these spaces can be vital homes for wildlife. DWT can offer advice on gardening for wildlife. Does your garden currently have any of the following features?

Question Title

* 8. DWT led the Devon Greater Horseshoe Bat Project, working across Devon, including an area between Beer and Colyton, where this rare bat is present. During the project, thousands of people borrowed bat detectors and microphones to survey their garden for bats. If DWT could secure funding to continue the Devon Bat Survey, would you be interested in taking part?

Question Title

* 9. Your comments: if you have any other thoughts, ideas or concerns about wildlife and wild places in East Devon, please use this space to let us know about them.

Question Title

* 10. Would you be able to support our work by becoming a member of Devon Wildlife Trust?
