Welcome to my pilot survey of autistic staff working in an education role in UK schools

Ethical clearance reference number: LRS-19/20-14072
I would like to invite you to participate in this research project which forms part of my postdoctoral research in autism and education. Before you decide whether you want to take part, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what your participation will involve. Please take time to read the information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. Ask me if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information.
What is the purpose of the study?
The purpose of the study is to gain an understanding of the sorts of issues faced by autistic school staff in an education role, and to consider what might be needed for them to be better supported and to be more effective and satisfied in their work. This could help autistic school staff, autistic pupils and broader school populations.
Who can take part?
You are invited to complete this survey if you are autistic, or are currently seeking a potential diagnosis of autism, and either work or have worked in a school in the UK in an educational role (e.g. teaching assistant, teacher, SENCo, Headteacher etc.).
You must be over the age of 18 to complete this survey.
What will happen if I take part?
If you agree to take part, you will complete a survey anonymously. The survey will ask you questions about your work in schools as an autistic person and ask you about what has helped or hindered your work, and what would make it better in the future. You will have the option of leaving your email address to be potentially contacted in the future for an interview in order to explore these issues in greater depth.
The survey will take you approximately 20 – 30 minutes to complete.
Do I have to take part?
Participation is completely voluntary. If you choose to take part you will be asked to provide your consent. To do this you will be asked to indicate that you have read and understood the information provided and that you consent to your anonymous data being used for the purposes explained.

You are free to withdraw at any point during completion of the survey, without having to give a reason. You will indicate your withdrawal by exiting the survey without completing it, and your data will be deleted. Once you submit the survey, it will no longer be possible to withdraw from the study because the data will be fully anonymous.
Please do not include any personal identifiable information in your responses.
