Introduction

Dear participant,

I am a teacher, middle leader and researcher working in London. This survey is the first stage in the research for a book I am writing for Bloomsbury publishers on teacher wellbeing, recruitment and retention. The book's provisional title is How to Survive and Thrive in Teaching.

The questionnaire is aimed at those currently in teaching at all levels; former teachers; and education professionals and associates (including school governors, researchers and consultants). Responses from teachers internationally are also very welcome.

N.B Please answer ONLY the sections relevant to you (simply scroll past irrelevant sections and click 'Next'... until I figure out how to direct it without sending people in endless frustrating loops!):

Section 1: All participants
Section 2: Teachers and trainee teachers
Section 3: Former teachers
Section 4: Middle leaders, senior leaders and headteachers
Section 5: Other education professionals (governors, researchers, consultants etc.)

ALL participants should then proceed to the 'Thank you' page before clicking 'Done'.

N.B This survey is best completed on a laptop, desktop or tablets - mobile phone screens may be too small for ease of completion.

All responses will be anonymised and no institution or teacher will be named in the findings.

I am extremely grateful to you for your time and your insights. For any questions or comments on the research, I can be contacted at emmakell@me.com or on Twitter @thosethatcan.

For the purposes of the survey, the following terminology is used:

'Institution': school or college

'Current context': your current location and institution.  This will allow me to make useful comparisons between sectors/locations

SLT: senior leadership team

Terminology relates to the English education system (e.g. Ofsted is the school inspection body), but every effort has been made to avoid confusing acronyms!
