LSC - Returning to Club Swimming

We’ve been working hard to plan for a return to Club swimming and we’re optimistic that there will be news on the re-opening of pools in the next few weeks.

We’re committed to re-starting Performance and Development Squad sessions as soon as possible and Foundation Squad sessions just a few weeks later.

We’re developing new protocols, risk assessments and session plans and we’re confident that we can minimise the risks of COVID19 infection during our sessions. There’ll be some significant changes and these are likely to last for some months.

We will maintain strict social distancing throughout our sessions; that means no use of the changing rooms or showers, instead swimmers will have to arrive ‘beach ready’ and leave their clothes and kit at poolside. It means reducing the number of lanes to 4 wider lanes; and the number of swimmers to 6 or less per lane. It means sessions planned to include more continuous swimming with less of a focus on technical work for a while. We’re also planning to put the swimmers in training bubbles, so they share the lane with the same small group each time they attend. It will also unfortunately mean no spectators in the pool area.

We’re working hard to secure additional funding for the Club, but we will have to cover the costs of pool hire and coaching as soon as we re-start sessions. It’s therefore very important that we a clear idea of how many swimmers are likely to attend sessions, so please take a few minutes to complete this short survey.

Many thanks

Saul Herbert
