AWA DANCE Charity (Advancing Women's Aspirations with Dance)

Welcome to the first ever Women in Dance Awards 2020 nomination! This award is commissioned by AWA DANCE Charity and Arts Council England. The Women in Dance Award, launched to mark the first anniversary of AWA DANCE Charity, seeks to annually celebrate women and their outstanding leadership and contribution to the UK dance sector.The online live event will take place on Friday 26th March 2021 at 7:30pm. Thank you for taking the time to nominate the woman you feel has made the most valuable impact for positive change in the UK dance sector in 2020. Nominations will be accepted until Sunday, 7th February, at 9pm. 
 
Women in Dance Award ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The nominee must:
- Be based in the UK;
- Be an active leader in the dance sector;
- Embrace and show aspects of the AWA D.A.N.C.E values.
- Work across many different roles (producer, technician, teacher, choreographer, community dance leader, etc.).
-  Be a significant and positive impact to a life/community/sector during 2020, in the dance industry. 
- Be anyone who identifies as a woman. 
 
Examples of the nominee work could encompass, but are not exclusive to, the following:
- Mentoring of individuals or groups
- Development of a fantastic dance programme. 
- Activism for women's rights
-Give support to an individual or community
THE PROCESS
After the closing date on Sunday 7th February, all of the nominations will be collected by the AWA DANCE team who will then decide on the shortlist. Those who have been shortlisted will then be sent to our judging panel who are composed of relevant dance leaders in the sector. From the proposed nominees, the panel will determine the winner of the first annual Women In Dance Award 2020.

We believe in promoting a new type of LEADERSHIP more relevant to our 21st century reality. A Leadership that is transformational, adaptable, empathetic, inclusive, collaborative, creative, resilient and resourceful. We question assumptions and empower from within themselves, allowing all of us to take ownership of our life and impact the lives of others.

The starting point for our leadership approach is based on our five core DANCE values: Dream big, take Action, Navigate the world, Create an artistic and leadership voice and Empower yourself and others.
