Introduction

Cornerstone House Centre is the host organisation of Cumbernauld CAN (Community Anchor Network), an initiative supported by Scottish Government which aims to develop the connected capacity of the Cumbernauld community. The project strives to enable Cumbernauld residents and organisations to work together to become better at responding to local needs, built on the theme of community empowerment.

A key element of the programme involves initiating Participatory Budgeting (PB) opportunities for local groups and citizens. PB is a process where ordinary people are given power to democratically and collectively make key decisions on how public funding is spent.

In May, Small Grants PB Fund Round 3 was announced as part of Cumbernauld CAN. This funding is designed for community activities and projects that will benefit Greater Cumbernauld. During 2020-21, through two previous pots (Small Grants PB Fund Rounds 1 and 2), a total of £33,882 has been distributed to 36 community groups, benefiting the local area significantly.

Under Small Grants PB Fund Round 3, community-led voluntary groups benefiting Greater Cumbernauld were invited to bid for a small grant of between £50 and £500 under the PB model. This was open to charities, SCIOs, unincorporated associations and any other not-for-profit group. The application deadline date was Monday 31 May 2021, with a total of 31 eligible applications received.

In a similar vein to previous Cumbernauld CAN funding rounds, it has been agreed that the Community Voting process for Small Grants PB Fund Round 3 will be undertaken through this online survey

Hence, if you are a citizen of Greater Cumbernauld or have an interest in the wider Cumbernauld community, Cornerstone House Centre invites you to cast your vote by completing this short questionnaire. This survey should take no more than 5-10 minutes to complete. All submitted survey responses will be counted in the final voting and ultimately contribute towards which proposals are funded.

The deadline for submission of this survey is Wednesday 30 June 2021 at 12.00noon. If you have any further questions in relation to the Community Voting process or the Cumbernauld CAN project, please contact Cornerstone House Centre on 01236 739220 or email events@cornerstone-house.org.uk.
