Dear Watford resident

Watford Borough Council - Community Survey 2017

As elected Mayor of Watford, it is really important for me to find out what local people think about the council, the town and your communities. What you tell me helps me in making the important decisions on Watford’s future and what the council needs to do to ensure we deliver this vision and achieve our ambitions for the town. This survey is one way of doing this and I hope that you take the opportunity to get involved. Watford is a fantastic borough and I am really proud to be Mayor of such a vibrant and successful town where our communities get on well together and people choose to live, work and visit.

This doesn’t mean we don’t have challenges, particularly around the number of new homes that government expects all local councils to provide and how we can ensure we protect local services at a time that we are facing a significant cut to our budget from central government. However, with these challenges come opportunities and Watford is really good at making the most of these. A fantastic recent example is the money we secured to support our amazing plans to improve Cassiobury Park. We had to put council money in but, by doing this, we were successful in getting millions of pounds additional funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery. And the good news is that our much-loved local Museum has also been awarded Heritage Lottery Fund money, so watch out for plans for big improvements at its home in the Lower High Street in the next few years.

You will see from the survey that one area I am particularly keen to hear from you on, is on the best ways to have more regular conversations with you and other local residents. We are all pretty switched on when it comes to new technology and so I think there must be ways we can better keep in touch with you through your laptops, tablets or mobile phones. However, some of you might still prefer to see me or your local councillors face to face. Just let me know.

The survey needs to be completed by Monday 11 December 2017.

In recognition of the time and effort you put into completing the survey, we would like to offer you the opportunity of entering your completed survey into a prize draw. Five surveys will be selected at random to receive a £50 intu voucher.

If you have any queries about the survey, please contact Kathryn Robson, at Watford Borough Council on 01923 278077 or email kathryn.robson@watford.gov.uk

Thank you again for sparing the time to take part in this consultation and I look forward to finding out your views about the council and our town.

Best wishes

Baroness Dorothy Thornhil MBE
Elected Mayor of Watford
