West Oxfordshire District Council has declared a climate and ecological emergency and made its pledge to become a carbon-neutral Council by 2030. The historic decision was taken at a meeting of Full Council on 26 June 2019.
With little more than a decade before that deadline, the Council began work immediately on an ambitious programme in 2020 to plan its key priorities.
As a first step, the Council published its report on Climate Action for West Oxfordshire to set out how it will:
· Develop a Carbon Action Plan as the mechanism for delivering West Oxfordshire District Council’s carbon-neutral commitment.
· Develop a Climate Change Strategy for West Oxfordshire, influencing change and driving forward climate action across the District working with partners and stakeholders including residents and community groups, planners and developers, land owners and businesses.
The Council’s work is now underway to make its operations carbon neutral. This means taking energy-efficiency measures, sourcing low and zero-carbon energy and investing in renewable technologies. More information on the steps currently being taken by WODC for climate action in West Oxfordshire, is available on our website:
In order to tackle the issues of climate change more widely, working with our residents, partners and community groups across the District, we are seeking your views on what actions the Council can take. We will use what you tell us in your answers to help us draft our Climate Change Strategy for West Oxfordshire.
