Introduction

Share your views on travelling on key routes in Portsmouth City Centre.

We are developing plans to improve bus priority and connectivity to and from bus stops to make journeys by bus quicker, easier and a more attractive option for everyone. We're also developing proposals to improve walking and cycling routes in busy areas.

There are a number of improvement schemes as part of the South East Hampshire Rapid Transit programme, which aim to transform the way people travel between Portsmouth and surrounding towns. The Portsmouth city region received just under £26 million from the government’s Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) to improve connectivity and increase productivity via better walking, cycling and public transport links.

Part of this funding would be invested in multiple schemes in Portsmouth city centre. In the North, we propose to introduce a new bus-only access road along Marketway and Unicorn Junction. In the South of the city centre, we're looking to introduce a bus-only route along the southern end of Commercial Road and Isambard Brunel Road. And on Lake Road, we want to introduce a new westbound bus lane towards the city centre as well as enhancements to the roundabout to improve safety for people walking and cycling.
