Community Crops in Pots - Community Survey |
Leith Community Crops in Pots is a local organisation based in Leith which operates the urban croft on Leith Links for the benefit of the whole community. They encourage and support the people and organisations of Leith to grow in urban spaces, in order to improve health and well-being, community cohesion and environment. We think people should have control of the food they eat, growing it themselves, together, and knowing where it comes from. As well as developing the land, they have recently been given the opportunity to develop the small football pavilion. Activity on the site ranges from growing food and flowers, but now they have the chance to include operating a farm shop, as well as space for community activities and events, indoors or outdoors, such as a drop-in café. The success of the project has led to the possibility of taking the pavilion building into community control and making it better.
This will only happen if the people of Leith want it. It must have an obvious benefit to our community as a whole, but it also needs to be financially viable. LCCiP is investigating these ideas in further detail and is keen to find out what local people want to see happening on this site. This new phase of research builds on previous consultations to secure a positive future for local people.
