Sleep and settling issues are incredibly common in babies and children and affects about 40% of children at some stage, so you are not alone YANA and NOT a failure.

The majority of sleep and settling issues can be cured with some form or planned intervention.  A small minority sometimes need more specialist helps as there may be underlying health or medical issues that need to be addressed.  For this reason, it is really important that a detailed sleep assessment is completed.

Maggie Fisher, the Channel Mum in-house health visitor, is also a sleep specialist who has worked with parents for over 25 years and established a sleep support service for the Trust that she worked for.

Maggie says: “I would love to help any parents who may be struggling with sleep deprivation as I know from personal experience with my own 3 children what an impact this has on physical and mental health and our relationships. My experiences prompted me to research the subject, write about it, train other health professionals and share with other parents what I learnt and continue to learn so they don’t have to suffer needlessly.  This sleep assessment from has a lot of questions, however if you have been asked to complete one it is so I can get a complete picture of what the issues maybe so I can offer bespoke suggestions. One size does not fit all, all children and families are unique and different and there is no magic wand. It is often a process of trial and error learning. Things may not work straight away and another strategy may need to be used. It can take a while but take heart we will get there in the end. "
