Weigh Ahead

Why?
I have been frustrated about the use and abuse of plastic, particularly single use, for a long time, so I've decided to take action and open 'The Weigh Ahead' on Dunblane high street. It will be a zero waste and plastic free shop that aims to help the community reduce their plastic use and encourage us all to live a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. To make sure it will work for the community, I’m looking to use this survey to gauge interest and particularly to find out what customers feel are the key items to have in stock.

Community Focus
It will be set up as a community interest company and social enterprise with profits being reinvested into the community, on environmental projects, to provide training opportunities and to run workshops for those in the local area.

So how will it work?
You will bring your own containers, buy a jar, use a jar from the amnesty box, or use paper bags to fill up with whatever products you want.
There will be dispensing units for dry foods like rice, flour, oats, pasta, pulses, and cereals. There will be other plastic free containers for coffee, tea, spices, oils, vinegars, dried fruit etc.
I’m going to make oat and almond milk in-shop and plan to supply non-homogenised organic milk as well as stocking peanut, almost and other butters as dairy alternatives. I will have vegan, gluten free and diabetic friendly sections.
As well as food, there will be household items like washing liquid, powder, cleaning products, toilet rolls etc.  Personal items like hair soaps, moon cups, period products, reusable nappies, toothbrushes, toothpaste etc.  Reusable cups and bottles.  Bamboo underwear and 'active' wear.

I will aim to have locally sourced recycled or up-cycled items, such as jewellery, small pieces of furniture and local art.

Monthly Box
As a vital and main component of the shop, I will also offer a tailored monthly delivery of essential items (within a 10 mile radius). This will mean people who can’t always come into the shop can still live an eco-friendly lifestyle and have the products they use delivered in plastic free packaging.

I’m really grateful for your thoughts so please get in touch via rosemaryhunterdunblane@gmail.com if you have any other questions or further comments.
If you love the idea and want to help it get off the ground the All-or-nothing Crowdfunder is open too at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/weigh-ahead
