Introduction

Recently the LGA Independent Group Executive established a working group to review the Group Constitution. The Constitution has been in place since the Group was established and has been reviewed annually by the Executive.  Revisions have taken place in some areas, but the document has not previously been reviewed in a comprehensive manner.

A copy of the current Constitution can be found here

The Working Group

The Working Group is made up of members of the LGA Independent Group and Professor Colin Copus, as a leading, independent expert in this area. The Working Group is supported by officers from within the LGA, including legal experts.

The Review

The aim of the review is to ensure the Constitution adequately supports the LGA Independent Group now and in the future.

Each of the four political Groups in the LGA has a Constitution upon which membership and key processes are based.

The LGA Independent Group review will be informed by a range of different activities, to ensure it is as fair and thorough as possible. These include a SWOT analysis of the current Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats presented by the constitution, desk research, expert and legal advice, an engagement session at our Annual Conference in November and this survey on some of the initial areas for consideration.
