Black, Asian Minority Ethnic population and Safeguarding across Adult Social Care

This survey was designed in consultation with members of the Race Equality Group in Sutton to ensure we captured the concerns within the BAME community regarding the adult safeguarding process.

This survey was commissioned by the Sutton Safeguarding Adults Board (SSAB).  The SSAB is a partnership of the local authority, Clinical Commissioning Group, Police, Fire Service, Hospitals, Housing and Voluntary organisations. The board members work together to increase the awareness of safeguarding (keeping individuals safe from abuse and neglect) across the borough and improve practice across members.

We knew from our data that the number of safeguardings is not representative of our population. The data tells us that BAME (Black and Minority Ethnic) Sutton residents are underrepresented in the data.

The SSAB recognises that this situation needs to be addressed and is looking to carry out a survey which will inform the work going forward and address some of the issues around cultural bias towards these communities.  This survey marks the start of this conversation which will inform the work going forward and address some of the issues around cultural bias towards these communities.

This short survey is a starting point to giving us some idea of the current situation in Sutton. Thank you for taking time to complete this survey.
