Broadford Community School and Hub

Broadford and Strath is a growing area on the island and is the main service location for South Skye. The Broadford Community has long fought for and held aspirations for a new much needed, and fit for purpose, Primary School for Broadford.   As part of these plans it has been proposed that a new School should include a Community Hub to replace our current Village Hall.

A considerable number of new houses are being planned in and around Broadford and present forecasts are suggesting up to fifty plus.  A new hospital is scheduled to be completed in 2021 and the MOWI fish feed production plant and possible fish processing expansion is expected to bring new opportunities and people to the area.  A new Primary School is being actively pursued with a need for it to be built as soon as possible and that proposal presents an opportunity for a new Community Hub to be built as part of the project.

Highland Council are in the process of prioritising schools to be included in a list of its next round of capital project spending and it is vitally important that Broadford primary is at the top of that priority list. Notwithstanding the dire need to build a new fit for purpose school that meets the delivery of a safe and healthy teaching environment for our children, the addition of a community hub, as part of a new school build, will be seen as an innovative overall project that will kick start a process whereby Scottish Government funding may be available to augment the overall spend.

The current village hall in Broadford has limited facilities and current demand exceeds the capacity of the existing amenities, therefore a new development is seen as an opportunity to address this matter and provide the community of South Skye with the enhanced community facilities needed for the foreseeable future.

This survey seeks to obtain the views of those who live and work in the area regarding the requirements of a planned Community Hub. Responses from this survey will be aggregated and presented to any prospective funders of the new Broadford Primary School and Community Hub. It should take no more than ten minutes to complete.
