We are NOT powerless against local flooding!
Are you surprised to hear this? Then go ahead and tick the ‘surprised’ box in Survey question four! The truth is, there is plenty that can be done to reduce flooding, and to reduce the impact of flooding, now that we fully understand the science of natural flood management.
Our hope is you will continue reading, and will spend two minutes completing the Derwent Flood Action Survey below.
You’ll be helping us build a picture of local people’s concerns and first hand flooding experience across Derbyshire.
YES, NATURE CAN HELP US REDUCE FLOODING NEAR YOU by absorbing rainwater into the ground across the countless acres of land around you. As you can see in the panel below, every person and every community can play a part in slowing the flow of rainwater on its journey from sky to land to sea.
On a larger scale, a row of local offices and shops could take simple actions to store and slow rainwater.
And thinking bigger, every river valley can be adapted - with leaky dams, and new woodland areas – so rainwater is slowed down, and given time to sink into the natural ‘sponge’ that is the earth under our feet.
Now we need to get on with slowing the flow to harness the protective power of nature in every possible square foot of Derbyshire.
We will also plant a tree for each survey response we receive, so you will be contributing to help #slowtheflow.
Thank you for caring enough to share your knowledge with us, and for taking the time to reply.
