COVID-LEGAL study: Surgeon experience during the Covid pandemic – medicolegal considerations
In this post-Montgomery era, there is an ever increasing emphasis on informing patients of all the relevant risks of surgery. COVID-19 has resulted in a significant number of changes to our practice, and poses additional risks to patients. By undertaking this survey, we hope to obtain a snapshot assessment of variation in practice during the pandemic, understand better what patients are being informed before surgery in relation to these new potential risks and to understand the physical challenges experienced by surgeons operating using PPE. We hope the results of this study will help us better understand the material risks posed by these new challenges and that this will inform future consent practice. We aim to publish the results of this survey in the Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons.
