Involving Volunteers who have Limited Time
Wednesday 20 September 2017, 10am – 1pm

In today’s busy world many people would like to volunteer but have limited time to give, or cannot commit to regular volunteering shifts.  This training will look at different ways that you can utilise this precious resource in ways that benefit your organisation.

We will look at a variety of roles, including both in-person volunteering as well as virtual or on-line volunteering.  This might include teams of corporate volunteers, one-off roles, micro-actions, low commitment or ad hoc roles, ‘taster’ roles and focused, short-term roles for skilled volunteers (e.g. developing a website or setting up a database).

The session will cover:
- what ‘limited time’ means for your organisation
- good practice in designing volunteer roles and advertising them
- selecting and matching volunteers, while avoiding too much red tape
- effective briefing and supervising
- risks and challenges that might be involved and how these can be addressed
- tips for retaining and engaging volunteers with limited time
- measuring the impact of ‘limited time’ roles – weighing up whether they are worth it for your organisation

It takes place at Volunteer Centre Tower Hamlets, Norvin House, 45-55 Commercial Street, E1 6BD (venue subject to change)

Cost:
Our training programme is kindly subsidised by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets (LBTH) via a Mainstream Grant. This enables us to offer discounts to certain organisations. Cost starts at just £30.
• £30 fee for voluntary and community sector organisations that are based in Tower Hamlets (must provide a Tower Hamlets postcode) and/or Mainstream Grant-funded by Tower Hamlets Council. (These groups are also eligible to receive free consultancy support on any aspect of volunteer management).
• £60 for any statutory and commercial organisations, or organisations not based in Tower Hamlets and/or not Mainstream Grant-funded by Tower Hamlets Council.

**In order to avoid excluding very small organisations, we will reserve one free place on each course for voluntary sector organisations based in Tower Hamlets with an annual income of less than £50,000. If you would like to apply for a free space, please email evelyn@vcth.org.uk with evidence of your annual income and your contact details**.
