Housing - introduction

This is the fourth consultation from the Burnham-on-Sea, Highbridge and surrounding area Neighbourhood Plan group. The consultation on each chapter of the plan is a necessary step to ensure that the final plan reflects your views about the future of your towns and the adjacent areas. This consultation is seeking your views on Housing: looking at principles behind any development, rather than where any development might be built.

This consultation is a distillation of the much longer chapter dealing with Housing. This is available on our website on the housing page. It is also available at the Burnham-on-Sea & Highbridge Town Council office. This chapter has been developed at the Housing group meetings and from comments received from interested parties. As with all chapters of the Neighbourhood Plan it cannot prevent development where this has been identified in Sedgemoor District Council’s [SDC] Core Strategy, however, it can influence the design, layout and materials used in new developments. Neighbourhood Planning can help to ensure that new development is sympathetic to the surrounding area and meets the needs of the local community.
The document starts with a proposed Vision and then proposed Policies dealing with key themes around housing such as design, healthy living etc.
Each suggested policy is followed by space for comment.  In order to help you in answering the questions the policies themselves are in bold print and explanatory and linking text are in ordinary print. There is also space for general comment at the end of the survey. Please feel free to use these spaces as you wish. There are 16 separate questions so the whole survey will take about 20 minutes.
