Background

We would like to invite you to complete a 20-minute post-course survey about the impact of the TechPathways Digital Art and Design course on your practice and your pupil's learning.

We are using this survey:
as a post-course survey to improve the course,
to find out if you would like an industry volunteer to visit your school,
  and for research.

A second survey will be sent to you in 3 to 6 months asking you what long term impact the course has had.

In order to compare your predicted outcomes and the actual outcomes (in 3-6 months) we will match the surveys to see if there are any changes in answers to some common questions.

The research element of the course is being undertaken because teachers across England are now required to deliver lessons incorporating programming including a range of pedagogies. This study hopes to better understand how CPD can introduce some of these different pedagogies, how teachers use them in class and what teachers perceptions are of the impact of this CPD.

If you would like to take part in the research element of the survey, we would be very grateful, but you should only take part if you want to – it is entirely up to you. If you choose not to take part, there won’t be any disadvantages for you, and you will hear no more about it.

All data will be anonymised, meaning that individuals cannot be identified from the data gathered and evidence presented.

If you choose to share your email address, so we can ask follow up questions or arrange volunteers etc,  the emails will be separated from your answers when the data is analysed and will not be part of the analysis. We will not share your email address with anyone. Data will be stored on password-protected, secure systems. Your data will be processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation 2016 (GDPR). All information collected will be treated as sensitive. Personal data and sensitive data including demographic information such as gender, ethnicity, disability and age inform the research. We are required by law to ensure that we protect this information, the use of the data is considered a task in the public interest. In doing so we recognise the need to ensure your privacy and in doing so will not include any personal identifiers. No attempt will be made to combine the information you have provided in order to identify you and in doing so your data is pseudonymised.

Please email the principal researcher Jane Waite (j.l.waite@qmul.ac.uk) if you need more information.

If you have any questions or concerns about the manner in which the study was conducted please, in the first instance, contact the researcher responsible for the study. If this is unsuccessful, or not appropriate, please contact the Secretary at the Queen Mary Ethics of Research Committee, Room W104, Queen’s Building, Mile End Campus, Mile End Road, London or research-ethics@qmul.ac.uk.

The ethics approval number for this research is QMREC2268a
