The Forest We Want

The world consists of many different ecosystems and in some of them generations of people have learned how to live well within them.

Biosphere Reserves are special regions around the world that have been recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) as examples of places where people are trying to live in harmony with their environment. Biosphere Reserves are places where others may learn how to live more sustainably.

The success of a Biosphere Reserve is due to a ‘bottom-up’ approach: the community creates a shared vision for the future development of the area, linking economic development, environment and culture.

This survey gauges the interest of the Forest of Dean becoming a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and the practices it may encourage.
