For the purpose of this survey, please refer to the following definitions:
  • Theft (by customers or staff): An offence where money, goods, company property or services are stolen from the business at that premises.
  • Robbery: An offence where force, or the threat of force, is used either during or immediately prior to a theft or attempted theft. Can include the use of a weapon.
  • Burglary: Defined as entering any building on the premises, without permission, with the intent to steal.
  • Criminal Damage: Deliberate damage or destruction of property, including arson.
  • Violence and Verbal Abuse: Incidents where employees are assaulted, threatened or intimidated, because of disagreements with customers or other employees.
  • Fraud: Wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.
  • Cyber Crime: Activity that utilises the internet to target data or other digital material in which the primary motive of the attack is to disrupt systems or services, for example, phishing emails.
  • ATM Ram Raids: A robbery in which a ATM is rammed with a vehicle and looted.
