Propose a session for the ASE Annual Conference: University of Reading 4-7 January 2017

Show off a great demonstration, trial a new lesson plan or host a workshop.

In January 2017, the ASE Annual Conference will be returning to the University of Reading. For the conference, we build up a programme of over 400 CPD sessions, so we are keen to receive proposals from all involved in science education, from Early Years to A-level, both ASE members and non-members:

  • Share ideas and practical activities from your classroom.
  • Showcase a new resource
  • Provide updates on subject knowledge
  • Present research approaches and findings
  • Examine assessment
  • Launch an initiative or new programme

If you would like to submit more than one session proposal, simply fill in this survey form again at the end You will be given the opportunity to update your session details before the conference programme is published but please now include the title, outline and lead speaker/organisation so that your session can be reviewed by the ASE committees. Please complete this form online but you can download a blank PDF form to prepare your answers.

Deadline for proposal submissions – Tuesday 7 June 2017

Expenses & Delegate Fees
In 2017, we will be changing how we register speakers slightly. Every year we make a limited number of day delegate passes available to presenters free of charge. Due to the increase in the number of sessions in recent years there has been a growing pressure on this allocation. To meet this demand, we have introduced a bursary scheme that asks speakers to assess the needs of their session and apply for the free speaker days they require. To apply, please complete the relevant section of this form. We are unable to cover travel or other expenses for speakers.

Type of session
While you can change the details of your session after the deadline please state now the type of room you need for your session. There is a choice in the form of lab, seminar room, PC suite or tiered lecture theatre.

Audio-visual (AV) Equipment, Computers and Science Apparatus - You are asked to detail required AV/IT equipment when submitting your proposal. Most seminar rooms are fitted with data projectors but you may need to provide your own laptop. Please give your full lab requirements in this submission. There will be the opportunity to update your request but the more details you can give us early on the easier it is to make sure we allocate you the correct room.

Health and Safety - All presenters are reminded of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974. All contributors have a responsibility to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of visitors to the Conference. Please detail any sessions which involve the use of children, animals, ionising radiations or explosives. Proposers of practical sessions will have to declare that they have carried out risk assessments by submitting the Risk Assessment Form.

Proposals will be accepted at the discretion of ASE. Please read the terms and conditions.
