Domestic abuse public consultation
Domestic abuse can happen to anyone
This questionnaire is aimed at residents of Doncaster.
If you have experienced it personally please fill out a different questionnaire as your direct experience as a survivor of domestic abuse is vital in informing decision makers about services and how they are delivered.
If you haven’t experienced domestic abuse yourself we still need your feedback. Domestic abuse can happen to anyone.
For the 12-month period to year ending March 2020 (figures from the Office of National Statistics):
· the Crime Survey for England and Wales showed that an estimated 2.3 million adults aged 16 to 74 years experienced domestic abuse in the last year
· the police recorded 758,941 domestic abuse-related crimes in England and Wales (excluding Greater Manchester Police), an increase of 9% from the previous year
· there was generally an increase in demand for domestic abuse victim support services, including a 65% increase in calls and contacts logged by the National Domestic Abuse Helpline between April and June 2020, compared with the first three months of the year
· Data from the Home Office Homicide from April 2017 to March 2019 show that over three-quarters of victims of domestic homicide were female (77% or 274 victims)
· Of the domestic homicides, the suspect was male in the majority of cases (263; 96%). Of the 83 male victims of domestic homicide, the suspect was female in 39 cases, and male in 44 cases
You could be a victim in the future or you could have a friend, colleague or family member that needs help. We want to get it right first time as we know that it is often difficult for people to realise and accept that they are in an abusive relationship, and even harder to ask for help. That is why your answers to these questions is so important in shaping the domestic abuse strategy and support services.
