Quasi Protection Routes: Ukraine, Afghanistan, Hong Kong

A recent trend has been the creation of immigration routes to meet a protection need.  This course will give an overview of these routes and how they differ from claiming asylum and from refugee resettlement.  In particular we will cover, from oldest to youngest:
  • The schemes for former 'locally employed staff' in Afghanistan
  • The BN(O) Status Holder Route and associated routes
  • The three schemes for Ukrainian nationals and their family members
We will also take a brief look at the limitations of these routes and at the people left unprotected.  Finally, we will cover what can be done at OISC Level 1, and what requires OISC Level 2.

The course will run from 9:30 am to 1 pm on Thursday 7 July and Monday 25 July 2022
