Newhaven Skatepark and Pumptrack Consultation |
Newhaven Skate Park
Background
Lewes District Council is working with Newhaven Town Council to secure £120,000 of funding to upgrade Newhaven Skatepark and build a surfaced pumptrack at Fort Road Recreation Ground. The project will see the removal of the existing ramps and the creation of a new skatepark and pumptrack based on the design ideas of the local riders.
Process
1. This initial consultation will ask for ideas from all the community to see what is wanted at the new park in terms of ramps, bowls, street elements, layout etc.
2. A smaller focus group will go throught the information gatherered and draw up a detailed design brief to be sent to construction companies.
3. We will look at additional funding opportunities and apply.
4. The companies come back with their designs and everyone is invited back to view, discuss and vote on their favourite design
5. The winning design is tweaked to accommodate suggested changes and they get on and build it.
Timeline
This is the first step and we still need to secure the funding but would hope to have funding in place next year.
Be realistic about what can be built
The existing park is built into the hill and is poorly designed. Significant earthworks and clever design may be needed to accommodate a new concrete park.
Some examples of the costs of local skateparks:
Uckfield £120,000
Peacehaven £170,000
Lewes £200,000
The Level £400,000
Why your here today
We want as much information as possible to tell the designers what you want from your skatepark. Let us know what is important to you whether it be street sections, deep bowls, china bank, steps, hubba, art areas etc.
