About the strategy

There is a diverse range of leisure opportunities in Fenland. From playing a sport with one of our local clubs, to using swings in a park, or swimming in one of our pools – there is something for everyone, regardless of age or ability.

Sport and physical activity positively benefits people and places. It improves health, increases economic prosperity and community cohesion, as well as life chances for young people. The council invests significant funding in providing leisure opportunities for the benefit of the community: for example, through our Leisure Centres, Sports Development activities and Open Spaces.

Our 2012-2016 Leisure Strategy has already supported the Council to improve the sport opportunities and the services available to the community. However, we need a new strategy that addresses the future challenges for leisure in Fenland. Many of our local residents are inactive, face health problems (related to obesity and diabetes) and due to rurality, struggle to access physical activity opportunities.

We have developed a leisure strategy that aims to tackle these issues over the next four years and would be grateful for your feedback.
