A community-led approach to responding to safer ageing for older People

Consultation – Strategic Partnerships for The National Lottery Community Fund

Introduction

One in five people in the UK over the age of 65 have been abused. This equates to 2.7 million older people affected by abuse in the UK. Hourglass (formerly Action on Elder Abuse) is the only charity that specialises in helping older victims of all types of abuse and neglect. We have almost 30 years’ experience and our aim is to work with older people and their families to raise awareness and stop all aspects of abuse including physical, financial, psychological, sexual and neglect. We deal with issues as wide as stealing from an older person to physical abuse and from putting pressure on an older person to change their will or cases of severe neglect.

The purpose of the survey is to identify how we can work together to ensure that the harm, abuse and exploitation of older people is prevented, identified and stopped in our communities.
