For Residents living in and between Pitcombe and Glastonbury

The Somerset & Dorset railway line was decommissioned in the 1960s, the tracks removed and the land sold back to farmers and adjacent landowners.  Where possible, we are proposing to transform the remaining level track-bed into a trailway for pedestrians, wheelchair and mobility scooter users, cyclists and equestrians.

This will provide a safe off-road route to link the villages and communities from Bridgwater to Henstridge in Somerset, and beyond to the south coast of Dorset. Where we are unable to use the original route we will seek alternate ways to link the track-bed, working with local landowners and the relevant local authorities.  The issue of navigating larger obstacles, such as major trunk roads, is being expedited through co-operation with the relevant national bodies.

This survey concerns the part of the route between Glastonbury and Pitcombe.   As this is a community-led project, we need your feedback and opinions in order to shape how the project proceeds. By completing the survey in the next few pages you will help us to better understand your needs and assist us to seek the appropriate support where necessary.  Your input will influence the outcome of this project.

The data you provide will be completely anonymous.

We have been doing our best to contact all the landowners along this route and we are aware that some of our letters may have gone astray or simply been missed.  If you are a landowner along the proposed route and have not yet received any communication from us, please do get in touch at
