Application for 16-19 Sixth Form Bursary 2020-21 |
Applications must be submitted online and all evidence submitted by Friday 4th October 2019.
INTRODUCTION
The 16-19 Bursary Fund is paid by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) to Schools and colleges so that they may provide financial assistance to young people who face the greatest barriers to continuing in education post 16.
Students who are eligible must apply online and provide the required evidence to support the application by Friday 9th October 2020.
The funds should be used by students to help pay towards the costs related to participation in full time education such as:
· Uniform
· Books and equipment
· Travel costs to university open days and interviews
· Hardship Costs
The bursary will also be used to provide meals at the academy for those students eligible for free school meals.
To be eligible to receive a bursary the young person must be aged under 19 on 31st August 2020.
The fund has two elements:
Group A: Vulnerable Bursary: Young people in care, care leavers, young people in receipt of income support ( or universal credit) in their own name and disable young people in receipt of Employment Support Allowance, who are also in receipt of Disability Living Allowance, ( or Personal Independent Payments)
Amount of award: £1,200 a year.
Group B: Discretionary Bursary: Providers may use their discretion to make awards to young people in ways that best fit the needs and circumstances of their learners. Discretionary bursary awards should be targeted towards young people facing financial barriers to participation, such as the costs of transport, meals, books and equipment. This group is further broken down:
Group B1 Students in other vulnerable groups :
· Young people with a learning difficulty or disability but not in receipt of ESA or DLA or PIP.
· Young carers
· Teenage parents not in receipt of income support
· Young offenders
Group B2
· Students on free school meals and/ or whose families receive income related benefits and/ or whose family income is below £16,190 per annum.
Amount of award: Discretionary up to £400 plus £200 contribution to laptop for year 12 (proof of purchase required)
Group B3
· Students whose family income is below £27,000 per annum
Amount of award: Discretionary up to £200
Group B4
· Available at the schools discretion and where funds are available once bursary types A- B3 have been processed
