Bridging The Gap is a project funded by the Co-op.  In 2013 the Co-op carried out research with Stonewall.  Although the research focused on planning ahead and arranging a funeral, it did expose some poor treatment of the LGB+ community when arranging a funeral.  It also showed there are issues when members of the LGB+ community die and their partners (be they civil partners or ‘ordinary’ partners) are not recognised by the wider family as a ‘valid’ member of the family which impacted on the grieving process.

Cruse Bereavement Care recognise that there is a massive under-representation of LGB+ community members accessing bereavement support services throughout the UK.  Cruse, therefore, want to ensure that members of the LGB+ community get the bereavement support they need, when they need it.  Alongside members of the LGB+ community, Cruse will produce bereavement materials and peer support groups in three locations in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
