Following discussions within the Town Council, it has been agreed to research the proposal of making Golden Square and East Hill a one-way system.  The Town Council is exploring possibilities of such a scheme in the belief that ultimately a one-way system would be safer for both pedestrians and drivers.

An approach to Kent County Council has provided a plan for improvements and approximate costings. The proposed improvements include:

·         a one-way system on Golden Square and East Hill;

·         improved pedestrian crossing at Oaks Road;

·         creation of a 20-mph zone in the area.

Under the proposals for the one-way system, Golden Square will be used by vehicles leaving Tenterden, and East Hill for vehicles entering the town.

The approximate cost of the improvement is £32,000.  Kent County Council do not have resources available to meet these costs and as a result, should such a scheme go ahead the Town Council would be required to fund the improvements.

At this stage, the Town Council is undertaking an informal consultation of residents to gauge support for the scheme.  Please would you let us know your views by 6th April 2022.
