Summary of changes

Sheffield City Council is making cuts to its provision of short breaks grants and special needs inclusion playcare services (which part-funds ACCT’s Acctivate and teenage clubs). We have produced this questionnaire to try to find out what impact these changes will have on you and on your access to ACCT activities.

If your family receives means-tested benefits* or your household income is below £21,000 you will not have to pay activity costs for specialist clubs like ACCT. However, you will no longer be eligible to receive both a Short Break Grant and clubs like ACCT. You will have to choose one or the other. The information now published on the Council website also indicates that families will not be eligible for the short breaks grant if they already receive direct payments.

If your family does not receive means-tested benefits* and your household income is more than £21,000, you will no longer be eligible for a Short Breaks Grant. AND you will be asked to pay a contribution towards specialist groups like ACCT, of £7 per session for one child or £10 per session for two or more children.

More information on these changes is available on the Sheffield City Council website: https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/content/sheffield/home/social-care/short-breaks.html

(* means-tested benefits here includes things like Jobseeker’s Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support, Pension Credit, Tax Credits (Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit), Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support, Social Fund, Universal Credit, Free school meals. Disability Living Allowance (DLA) does not count as part of your household income in these proposals, but Carers Allowance does.)
