Introduction to the Survey

In 2016 the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) in the US, together with the ECR Community Shrinkage and On-shelf Availability Group in Europe, published a report putting forward the concept of Total Retail Loss (TRL) – a radically different way for retailers to define and measure how loss impacts upon their businesses. Since then, this idea has received much publicity and support around the world.

The purpose of this short survey is to better understand levels of awareness of TRL, its applicability to the retail world, and how it might be further developed to encourage greater use and adoption. Your participation is very much appreciated – the results of this research will be made freely available in 2019 to all those that participate.

It is being undertaken by Professor Adrian Beck from the University of Leicester in the UK. For further information about this study, please contact Professor Beck: bna@le.ac.uk.
