UK Snowsports Coaching Awards 2019

The UK Snowsports Coaching Awards provide the opportunity to thank coaches and instructors for their dedication and to recognise their achievements. Any currently licenced coach operating in the UK or with UK skiers can be nominated for a UK Snowsports Coaching Award.

The awards will be presented at the Awards dinner at the UK Snowsports Coaching Conference on the 15th September at Snozone Castleford. On behalf of all of our members Snowsport England would like to say a huge thank you to Rossignol for sponsoring their sponsorship of the Awards.

This year the process of creating a shortlist was extrememly diffciult as you can see we had a record number of nominations and the panel couldn't narrow the names down.

Nominations were through an open process and then short listed by a panel. Voting will be open until 10th September 2018

Row Emery - Coach at Stoke Ski Centre. Row is involved in all aspects of teaching at Stoke from teaching the little nippers to ski for the first time all the way through to racing and freestyle. The biggest advocate of how great a coach he is, is the fact that the kids come back week after week.

David Hanlon- Another one from Stoke, has made such a difference to Stoke Scorpions, he has built a real team mentality where every member feels valued and part of the squad. I feel that he deserves recognitions for all this hard work. Stoke is a small privately owned ski centre and David and his team have made so many improvements over the last few years. He is always willing to try new techniques and has been a great help to James, a mogul skier, by learning about moguls himself. He has a taken a number of young skiers and helped them develop into excellent racers that can now compete with some of the best race clubs in the country. He does this throughpraise and his own commitment to the sport. Everyone at Stoke Race Club skis with a smile on their faces and love to wait for feedback on their runs.

Simon Longstaff - Simon works out of The Snow Centre. He coaches evertything from beginners to race training and everything in between. He shows interest in all particiapants and brings everyone on at their own pace. He is friendly and welcoming to everyone even if he isnt their coach.

Ben Kinnear - Ben runs the programme and over comes many difficulties, Ben goes through extra lenghts so that a high standard and level is maintained. He regularly helps with regards to training on and off snow, gives up all of his personal time and is always wearing a smile. I think he is genuinely under-valued in the snowsports community in the UK

Noel Baxter - His whole life is dedicated to coaching his athletes. He has propelled 1 athlete into the top 30 in GS for the upcoming season. His hard work, long hours and unfathomable expertise deserves to be recognised. As a coach and mentor he really is at the top of his game.

Paul Telling - Paul's performance coaching doesn't need any introduction, and his development of the Team Evolution U16 to FIS programme has yielded amazing results this last season.

Gerry Wigglesworth - He is vital at Pendle Ski Club. He trains and encourages new instructors. He is the backbone of the instructor squad and the Club would be nothing without him.

John Greenwood - John is an outstanding Tutor who delivers both UKSS Level 1 and 2 Ski Instructor Courses. Never happy with letting himself go stale he continues to partake in various CPD which has influenced those he mentors. He has a passion for learning and all Snowsports which is infectious and encourages those around him to better themselves.

Alan Eason - Alan has mentored candidates in Cross Country skiing, which enabled them to gain and be revalidated as a Level 1 Nordic ski instructor. With his vast profile and his all year round on snow teaching his experience and knowledge are second to none. He has benefitted many peopels development in the Cross-Country Skiing.

Si Nicholson - Si was nominated in this category for his work in Para-Snowsport. The lead snowboard coach for the British Parasnowsport - Snowboard team. Responsible for prioritisation of UK Sport funding within the programme and directing the implementation of Scottish Institute of Sport service providers to ensure medal success at the 2018 Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.But there are many strings to Si's guitar. He is a passionate Snowboard Cross coach and the founder of Cross Snowsports which has seen a surge in new members and successes along the way.

Charlotte Evans - Since the formation of SMK Satellite Club Outspan Rebels VI, Charlotte has coached both VI athletes and guides at SMK sessions and assisted with the organisation of trips to Landgraaf and (with Glen Greener) has provided amazing levels of coaching that provides not only the racers but the guides with confidence

Chris Day - A top notch professional coach who knows the role inside out. Tutor of the Adaptive Awareness Course and regular at Gloucester Slope. Chris has many years working with a wide variety of skiers with various needs and always makes them and their motivations the key aim in the sessions.

John Vaughan - Relible friendly high level race coach for free, goes on holiday with ski club treats equally and always with a smile .

Ben Reid - Having been coached by many different coaches and different clubs I feel Ben stands out above all the rest. He creates a family feel within the team of athletes regardless of age (11 - 50+) that surpass that of other clubs. This has created an enormous bond between us all that benefits our training as we all motivate each other.

Alex Reidy - Year in Year out Alex is consistently developing and improving alpine ski racers, taking them from Mini's and setting the foundations and skills to turn them into amazing U16+ athletes.

Jakey Richardson - Jake has a passion for ski cross & ensuring all the children he teaches improves at every session. He maintains a sense of fun, whilst maintaining discipline required to become a top performing athlete. The results speak for themselves with many podium finishes for his team both Internationally at the Audi Ski Cross series & The Brits. Irrespective of their level every child is given the same level of commitment from Jake to their individual progression path, with every competition they enter improvements in performance/technique are clear to see. I cannot praise his commitment & talent for connecting with teenagers highly enough, which is bringing the best out in our junior athletes.

Emily Evans - Very patient and positive race coach but also very focused and good at instilling self discipline into her athletes.

Rob Taylor - Rob has gone above and beyond this year to ensure that the Futures Project sessions have been a success, that participants have enjoyed the sessions and progressed in the sport - and returned to enjoy another session.

Rob has an incredible way of bringing the best out of the participants he works with, helping them overcome fears and clearly outlining what steps they need to take to land the next trick.

Ian Danby - Ian has been an amazing technical coach o the mountains and in the UK snow domes. Especially considering his field is moguls.

Mark Vinter - Coach at Glasgow Ski Club, works really hard to give his athletes the best experience. He has a great rapport with all his athletes. He is patient and encouraging.

Andy Turns - Andy has a brilliant rapport with the children, encouraging and developing their self esteem, confidence and ski technique.

Jake Richardson - Jake has a passion for ski cross & ensuring all the children he teaches improves at every session. Emily Evans - Extremely helpful and patient, she looks at each student independently, and always gets the best out of training sessions.

Will Manns - He always take the time with kids on and off the slopes to get to know then under stand there ways and gain their trust. He joins in all activities with them trampolining, wakeboarding and all the fun stuff. The children respect him.

David Beckett - David has coached children throughout the years from toddlers to high level racing. His enthusiasm is endless plus he does a huge amount for the club
