The Re-opening of the Newton Abbot to Heathfield Railway Line
Heath Rail Link
The Heath Rail Link is a Public interest group formed to facilitate the re-opening of the existing railway and to return it to operational use for local commuters and heritage passengers. This will enable the local infrastructure to have a sustainable future and purpose for working everyday services as a way of easing transport pressures in the region, giving a boost to the local infrastructure, commercial and tourist industries within the outlying area.
The group’s aim is to raise funding to secure the line and run a regular zero carbon commuter service between Heathfield, Teigngrace and the mainline hub of Newton Abbot, where the disused platforms 9 and 10 will be restored. Part of our plan is that with the support and assistance of Teignbridge Council, a park and ride scheme can be operated at Heathfield on the A38 to reduce traffic into Newton Abbot. Later plans include introducing a heritage service and extending the line along the original track bed towards Bovey Tracy, the gateway to Dartmoor National Park.
