For a number of years now Oswald Medical Practice and Myrtle House Surgery have been working together as a shared team. This means that we have had the same clinical team (i.e. doctors and nurses) and management team working across both GP practices.
We are proposing to merge the two practices into one. As a patient, you won’t see any difference in the care or level of service that you are provided with. It will just support our administration function better and more efficiently. The merged practices will be known as Oswald Medical Centre.
However, part of our proposals is to relocate Myrtle House Surgery and Hyndburn Medical Practice and move services to newly refurbished premises at Aston House, 387-391 Blackburn Road, Accrington BB5 1RP (situated adjacent to Acorn Primary Health Care Centre). The premises at Myrtle House Surgery are not currently fit for purpose and require extensive refurbishment, as well as not meeting accessibility standards.
In addition, we also propose to relocate Oswald Medical Practice at 296 Union Road, Oswaldtwistle to the former Kusum Medical Centre at 274 Union Road, which will also be newly refurbished. Oswald Medical Centre premises do not belong to the current GP partners and the owners wish to sell the building. Again, the building needs extensive refurbishment to bring it up to date.
Pritchard Street Surgery in Blackburn will remain where it is.
This in effect means we will reduce our number of sites from four to three. Again, these relocations will not mean a reduction in staff or number of GP or nurse appointments. We will still operate the same access to appointments as we do now.
We appreciate that the proposals to merge surgeries and relocate may be concerning. We would like to know your views on this as these are important to us, including any impact it would have on you.
This survey will close on Wednesday 6th March.
