New York Times|SurveyMonkey poll: June 2019

Amidst a prolonged trade spat with two of the country’s three biggest trading partners, 68% of people in a New York Times|SurveyMonkey poll think President Trump’s trade policies are likely to cause the prices of goods and services in the U.S. to rise in the next 12 months.

Majorities of Democrats (83%), independents (69%), and Republicans (56%) all expect prices to rise. Fewer than two in 10 people (17%) think the president’s trade policies will have no effect on prices in the next year, and fewer still (12%) believe they will cause prices to fall.

On the other hand, 42% of people say the president’s trade policies will cause more jobs to be brought back to the U.S. from other countries in the next 12 months, while 29% say they will cause more jobs to be sent to other countries and 25% say they will not have an effect.
