CNBC|SurveyMonkey poll: “Invest in You” July 2019

Just over half of people in a new CNBC|SurveyMonkey poll consider themselves savers rather than spenders (54% vs. 41%), and a plurality of people (45%) say their monthly spending levels have stayed about the same over the course of the last 12 months. One third (33%) say their spending has decreased in that time period, while 21% say their spending has increased.

What are people spending money on?

When people make impulse purchases, most are pretty tame. Just 19% of people say they spent more than $100 the last time they made an impulse purchase. Exactly half (50%) say they spend between $10 and $100, and nine percent say they spent less than $10. But, a staunch 11% say they never made impulse purchases, and eight percent didn’t know how much they spent.
