Overview

Barnardo’s Positive Identities Service has been funded by the Government Equalities Office with the overall purpose to reduce the incidence of homophobic, biphobic and transphobic (HBT) bullying in primary and secondary schools in Yorkshire and Humber region by positively responding to, and working to prevent, discriminatory bullying. We work with schools to embed a culture of inclusivity across the whole school community.

HBT bullying is bullying that is based on prejudice or negative attitudes, beliefs or views about lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or those who are questioning their sexual or gender identity (LGBTQ). It can also suggest that someone is less worthy because they are LGBTQ.  HBT bullying can be targeted at students who identify as LGBT or are questioning their identity, have LGBT family members, students who break out of perceived 'gender norms' (pink and blue, football or netball etc.) or those students who are seen to be ‘different’ in some way.

Barnardo's offers free training and support to schools, working with schools to:

·         Prevent HBT bullying from happening in the first place
·         Effectively respond to HBT bullying when it does occur
·         Create inclusive school environments for LGBTQ students and families

This application survey will take no longer than 5-10 minutes to complete. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch, either at tackleHBTbullying@barnardos.org.uk or on 0113 393 3259
We look forward to working with you,
