CITES-listed medicinal and aromatic plants species and voluntary certification standards (survey for businesses)
Questionnaire for Business sector/industry
This questionnaire aims at companies trading (exporting or importing) medicinal and aromatic plants, as well as manufacturers of final products. This survey is conducted in the framework of the project “CITES-listed medicinal and aromatic plants species (MAPs) and voluntary certification standards”, implemented by TRAFFIC, with the support of the German government.
The overall aim of the project is to identify how the voluntary certification of CITES-listed species can assist with implementation of CITES for Appendix II wild-sourced MAP species. This is both to aid industry in enabling sustainable and legal trade in CITES Appendix II species, and to assist governments in obtaining the information necessary to make decisions about trade in CITES species (and to, hopefully, enable smoother trade in species).
The initial findings of the research has so far been presented to the government agencies (CITES Parties) during the CITES Plants Committee meeting in July 2018, with the overall positive feedback. The questions raised included the point of operationalization of such approach, which indeed requires close collaboration between the industry, governments and standard-setting organizations.
We would like to provide the opportunity to stakeholders to contribute to this project by completing the survey, and by further engaging in this discussion. The data collected in the survey and in the surrounding discussions will be used to inform the research documents, which will be made publically available, including to inform the discussions around relevant CITES meetings.
