Welcome to the RMetS Diversity  and Inclusion Survey. The main part of this survey will take between 5 and 10 minutes to complete. If you complete the optional free text boxes at the end, it may take longer.

Why are we collecting anonymous data on diversity and inclusion?

The Royal Meteorological Society wants to encourage the meteorological community to be both diverse and inclusive so that we make the best use of the talent that exists in all parts of society and provide access to the world of science, technology and the profession of meteorology for all.

We need to make sure that the actions we take are relevant to the Royal Meteorological Society and its members. We can only do this effectively if we know certain information about you, our members.

How are we collecting this anonymous data, and who will see it?

We plan to collect information as an anonymous snapshot every 2 to 3 years. In 2023 we will use SurveyMonkey to collect this information. There is no way to identify any individual respondents either in the data within SurveyMonkey or any analysis performed. As an additional measure, we won’t report data for any groups smaller than 10 people - this may mean we need to combine categories with smaller numbers where appropriate, or that we cannot report for certain groups yet. There is a Prefer Not To Say option for all questions that require an answer, should you wish to use it.

The results will be analysed by Ellie Highwood (EDI consultant) and then discussed with the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Working Group. Aggregated data will be presented to Council and other Committees of the Society to take into account in their plans where appropriate. We will also publish an overview of the data on the web pages of the Society, in common with other learned societies.

What information are we asking you to share anonymously with us?

We are asking you to answer a maximum of 13 questions about yourself relating to areas where there is the potential to make changes that would have a positive impact on members experience, and either:

- there is historical under-representation in similar Societies or related disciplines,
- or where there is evidence that groups identifying in particular ways experience work or study places differently to other groups

The terminology used in this survey is based on those used in UK law. If you are based outside the UK and these are questions that are not appropriate for you to answer in your local context, please use the prefer not to say option.

To check whether we have responses from across our communities we will ask you two questions about your connection with meteorology and the RMetS.

At the end of the survey there are three optional questions if you wish to share anonymously any experiences or ideas that you have about equality, diversity or inclusion at RMetS. Please do not include any identifying information in any answers that you provide.

By continuing with this survey you agree to us using any information you provide as described above.
