Events & Competitions Committee have agreed that for the JK 2017 races, Day 2 will be Middle Distance in format for all age classes rather than just the Elite. This decision currently applies only to 2017.

We would like to take this opportunity to gain your views on Day 2 normally being a Middle Distance race rather than normally being a Long (Classic) Distance race. One significant benefit may be to make it easier to host the JK. Currently, only areas that offer sufficient challenging terrain meeting the standards required for two Long (Classic) Distance races are considered to host the JK. More areas could be considered to host the JK if the terrain requirements are reduced to being able to stage one Middle and one Long Distance race rather than two Long Distance races.

Question Title

* 1. Day 2 of the JK should normally be a Middle Distance race day for all age classes:

* 2. If the terrain for a JK is able to meet the requirements of two Long Distance races this would be preferable:

We would also like your views regarding how the ‘Overall Winner’ is determined.

Currently the overall winner is determined by the combined times taken on the two races on Day 2 and Day 3. At the JK 2017 this would mean the overall winner is determined by the combined time taken for the Middle Distance race and the Long (Classic) Distance race.

We have been asked to consider making the combined winner for the JK 2017 the winner determined by the combined times taken for the Sprint, Middle and Long (Classic) Distances. For the JK 2017 this would make the combined winner the best all-round orienteer across the three disciplines.

* 3. The ‘Combined Winner’ of the JK 2017 should be the winner based on the combined times take for the Sprint, Middle and Long (Classic) Distances:

* 4. If you have other ideas about the JK you are happy to share, please take this opportunity to let us know:

Events & Competitions Committee will consider all the views reflected in the responses and will be seeking other opportunities to gather member views on these matters.

Thanks you for providing your views, it is greatly appreciated.
