Welcome

The aim of this study is to consider what individual differences contribute to smoking behaviour in smokers and ex-smokers. There are three individual differences to investigate and these include personality, self-esteem, and outcome expectancies. Smoking behaviour will be assessed through a nicotine dependence measure. The results of this study will allow analysis between potential predictors and the criterion to determine any positive correlations.

To participate in this study, you will complete a questionnaire that will take approximately 20 minutes so please set aside this time. There are 4 sections of questions to answer in total. The first section will measure personality traits via 60 items rated from Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree. Secondly, self-esteem will be monitored in a ten-item scale of statements rated from Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree. Then, the third section will outline potential outcome expectancies answered from 0-9 (completely unlikely to completely likely) in terms of what is considered the most important consequence of smoking behaviour. Finally, the concluding section of the survey will assess nicotine dependence on a 12-item scale. There will be guidance provided on how to answer each section appropriately and you are not obliged to answer any question you do not wish to.

All data collected from this study is confidential and anonymous and will remain this way after completion. If you wish to withdraw your participation from the study, please email me at 14047918@students.southwales.ac.uk highlighting your request with your unique code. No reason will be needed for the withdrawal of your data and you will be able to do so without penalty.
